2020-2021 College Catalog

Special Circumstances

When it is impossible for a refugee, asylee or victim of human trafficking to obtain documentation of his or her completion of a secondary school education in a foreign country, the College may accept self-certification that the applicant has completed a high school (or equivalent) education. In these rare cases, applicants must submit to the Office of Enrollment Services the following:

  1. Proof of their attempt to obtain documentation of their completion of a secondary school education in a foreign country, i.e., a copy of an e-mail or letter, including proof of mailing.
  2. A signed and dated statement that indicated that the applicant completed his or her secondary school education in a foreign country, the name and address of the foreign high school where the applicant completed the secondary school education and the date when the foreign high school diploma was awarded.
  3. A copy of the entry status documentation that identifies the applicant’s current or prior status as a refugee, an asylee, or as a victim of human trafficking and who entered the United States after the age of 15.

Recognized Equivalents of a High School Diploma

The College recognizes several equivalents to a high school diploma:

  1. A GED Certificate
  2. A certificate or other official completion documentation demonstrating that the student has passed a state-authorized examination that the state recognizes as the equivalent of a high school diploma
  3. An associate degree
  4. Successful completion of at least 60 semester or equivalent credits that does not result in the awarding of an associate degree, but that is acceptable for full credit toward a bachelor’s degree at any institution
  5. Enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program where at least 60 semester or equivalent hours credit hours have been successfully completed, including credits hours transferred into the bachelor’s degree program

Homeschooling

Applicants who completed a home education program must provide a secondary school completion credential or a signed affidavit from their parent or legal guardian, stating the applicant completed a home education program.

Master’s Degree Programs

Applicants entering a masters level program must provide transcripts demonstrating successful completion of a bachelor’s degree.

Foreign Educated Applicants and Degree Verification

Applicants claiming degrees from outside of the United States must have their transcripts translated and evaluated by an NACES or AICE approved credentialing agency.

If an applicant previously entered a program in a degree-granting institution for which a high school diploma was required, the College may accept an evaluation from an NACES or AICE approved credentialing agency certifying that a high school diploma was a requirement for the higher degree program.

International College of Health Sciences reserves the right to deny enrollment if the College deems that an applicant’s Proof of Graduation cannot be authenticated or verified.

Late Enrollments

A student who wishes to enroll after the registration deadline (which is the first scheduled class day of each term) may do so with the approval of the program administrator up to the last day of the add date for the term.

Reentry Considerations

Any student wishing to be considered for reentry into the College must meet with a representative from the Office of Academic Affairs. The student may be required to meet new enrollment and program requirements prior to acceptance. A student reentering in a program must also meet with the Office of Financial Services.

Students who have failed the same course twice, or a total of three courses, and consequently have been dismissed from a program, may be considered for reentry into the same program by submitting a written appeal addressed to:

International College of Health Sciences

ATTN: Office of Academic Affairs, Reentry Appeal

2300 South Congress Avenue, Suite 105

Boynton Beach, FL 33426

The signed letter must be sent as a PDF attachment emailed to: appeals@ichs.edu

The Office of Academic Affairs will review the extenuating circumstances that contributed to the lack of success during the previous enrollment and analyze what changes are in place which may allow improved performance and readiness. Each appeal will be considered individually, and the applicant has the responsibility of demonstrating the changes he or she has made to set the foundation for a successful reentry and progression throughout enrollment, should the consideration be granted. Reentry stipulations may include the requirement to pass competency assessments, and limited course work or credits. If approved by the Office of Academic Affairs, the student will complete the reentry process with the Offices of Enrollment Services and Financial Services.
